Work outside. There's less mess and fumes are dispersed more quickly. Wear rubber gloves and an apron. Also be sure your jeans are wet before you begin.
Stuff your jeans. If you do not want bleach on the opposite side of your pants, stuff your jeans with newspaper.
Flatten your jeans.
